Six Months in Norway: Running Out of Excuses
First impressions
We moved to Norway in July. Everything was green, bright, and full of people outside. Running, cycling, hiking.
At first, I thought it was just summer behavior. Nice weather makes everything easier. I assumed it would change once rain or cold arrived.
Watching the seasons change
Autumn came, with rain and darker days. People were still running. I told myself winter would be different. Surely no one runs when it is freezing.
Winter proved me wrong. Snow, ice, darkness, temperatures around minus fifteen degrees, and still people outside, moving, training, living normally.
That was when I learned a common saying here. There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.
Running out of excuses
At some point, I realized the environment was changing me. When you see people run in every condition, you either keep explaining why you cannot, or you stop explaining. I started running too.
Not because I suddenly became disciplined, but because I ran out of excuses.
I spend more time outside now, move more, and appreciate nature more. My Saint Bernard is very much part of that change.
Looking back
Six months in, Norway has quietly reshaped my habits.
Not through motivation or pressure, but through example. Watching how others live made it easier to change how I live too.
